Dr. Mistry says nothing makes him happier than seeing a patient come back year after year with a healthy smile that they’ve worked together to achieve. Seeing someone thrive after getting to know them is fulfilling beyond words, and he loves hearing about his patients’ lives, knowing they have a strong, confident smile they can always rely on.
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Mistry was in his last year of undergrad in engineering when he decided he wanted to do something that was more hands-on and artistic. He liked medicine/healthcare and had seen his dad and other family members happy in their careers in dentistry. The more he explored it, the more he realized it would be a great fit. It requires a good eye for detail and being creative, two things he has always excelled at.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Mistry received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Viterbi School of Engineering at the University of Southern California. When he decided to make the switch to dentistry, he went on to earn his dental degree from the USC Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry before doing his residency in general and hospital dentistry at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle.
There, Dr. Mistry worked extensively with medically compromised patients, like those receiving treatment for head and neck cancer, and children. He also learned to safely sedate patients for dental treatment. Following his initial dental education, he completed programs in orthodontics, oral surgery, and dental implants to be able to provide the best care for his patients.
Still learning and striving to improve, he trained at the prestigious Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies and maintains memberships in the American Dental Association, Oregon Dental Association, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and Progressive Orthodontics.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Mistry and his wife (a fellow dentist!) have two children who love animals, sports, and art. They enjoy spending time together and going camping, traveling to learn about other cultures, and watching movies. Their family is completed by their two dogs, a kitten, and some parakeets.
